Southern California-based trucking and logistics company Total Transportation Services Inc. (TTS-I) has signed a purchase order with Vision Industries Corp. for 100 Tyrano hydrogen fuel cell/plug-in electric Class 8 trucks. The contract also has an extension option for an additional 300 units.
‘This purchase order demonstrates that the trucking industry has embraced the zero-emission platform,’ says Vic La Rosa, president of TTS-I. ‘It will give regulatory agencies comfort in finally pushing the zero-emission technologies that are needed.’
The Tyrano heavy-duty, zero-emissions drayage vehicles feature 536 hp and 3,300 ft./lbs. of torque. With the standard hydrogen fuel-tank configuration, the Tyrano's range is about 200 miles, and an extended-range configuration extends that range to more than 400 miles, the company says.
Vision adds that the hydrogen-refueling time is approximately four to seven minutes. The Tyrano's top speed is governed at 65 mph at 80,000 lbs. GCVWR.
