Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide Inc. says a customer in the waste industry has ordered back-of-cab compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel-storage systems for integration into its fleet of heavy-duty refuse trucks.

The systems, which store 123 DGE of CNG, will be used on the customer's Peterbilt 355 trucks. The installation and service program will be managed through the Peterbilt dealership network, and the installation will also be supported by Quantum through its new dealer training and post-sales service program.

‘We are excited about the opportunity this order presents within a new application market for Quantum, and the ability to work with the Peterbilt dealership network on this program,’ says Brian Olson, president and CEO of Quantum.

‘In addition to the growing market for heavy-duty CNG Class 8 tractors, there is steady growth in refuse applications,’ he adds. This program adds to our existing programs that leverage heavy duty OEM dealerships, transportation companies and other truck associations for installation, training and service that will enable build-out and service support in this industry.’

The back-of-cab systems will be produced and assembled at Quantum's tank manufacturing and integration facility in Lake Forest, Calif.
