BYD Co. Ltd. and transportation services company greentomatocars have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a fleet of all-electric minicabs for use in London. The agreement's initial target is the supply of 50 of BYD's e6 electric vehicles, which greentomatocars will deploy in the city.
The five-seat e6 is a crossover vehicle with a ‘spacious interior that lends itself perfectly to the private hire market,’ BYD says. The vehicle features a 75 kW motor and BYD's proprietary iron phosphate battery technology, which yields a range of up to 186 miles on a single charge. The e6's top speed is 87 mph.
‘We are very pleased to be working with BYD on this project,’ says Jonny Goldstone, managing director of greentomatocars. ‘As a partner company, BYD has shown great leadership to challenge the status quo, innovate and electrify mass transport – principles which go to the very heart of greentomatocars.’
