Wrightspeed Brings Hybrid Powertrain Option to Heavy-Duty Fleet Vehicles

0

Wrightspeed Inc. has introduced the Route HD: a hybrid powertrain designed for heavy-duty fleet vehicles, such as refuse trucks and other Class 8 assets.

The Route HD uses electric motors to power a vehicle's wheels, along with a battery pack and a turbine range-extending generator that charges the battery as needed. The generator can run on diesel, as well as compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG) or other alternative fuels. The company says the product is designed as a vehicle-repowering solution, enabling fleets to retrofit existing trucks.

Wrightspeed's new product is based on the original Route platform, which was developed for medium-duty applications, like service and delivery fleets. The company also offers the Circuit – an all-wheel-drive ‘ultra-performance’ powertrain for supercar manufacturers.
