Westport LD's WiNG Power System, a bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG)/gasoline platform for Ford Super Duty pickup trucks, has a home at the new Westport Kentucky Integration Center (WKIC) in Louisville, Ky.
The new assembly facility, which is equipped to install 20,000 systems annually, is located near Ford Motor Co.'s Kentucky Truck Plant. The WiNG-powered vehicles are ship-through OEM products, with the trucks taken directly from the Ford plant to WKIC, where the bi-fuel CNG systems are installed. The trucks then return to Ford to be delivered through its dealership network.
Westport LD is a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier (QVM), so the WiNG system is designed to meet or exceed OEM standards. The bi-fuel vehicles are delivered ‘Key-Ready’ to customers, and the original Ford warranty is maintained. Westport LD provides a warranty for all the bi-fuel system components.
Westport LD notes that 40 new employees will work in the Kentucky facility, and an additional 60 workers are in its Plymouth, Mich., technical center.
