Valeo, a company specializing in emissions-reduction systems and modules for automotive applications, is now offering its i-StARS and ReStart micro-hybrid systems to original equipment manufacturers.
The company says these products enable stop-start functionality for vehicle fleets, helping reduce fuel consumption of traditional internal combustion engines by 2% to 3% during the standard driving cycle and by up to 15% in congested urban traffic.
i-StARS (‘integrated starter alternator reversible system’) is linked to the crankshaft through the belt drive and enables the engine to shut off when the driver begins to brake and the vehicle has dropped below a preset speed. ReStart is a reinforced starter designed to withstand repeated stopping and starting when a vehicle comes to a standstill.
