Utility Adding Natural Gas Vehicles to Fleet

Multi-state investor-owned utility CenterPoint Energy Inc. says it will be deploying nearly three dozen natural gas vehicles (NGVs) to its fleet for use in company operations in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Minnesota and Mississippi.

The addition of 35 new vehicles this year will bring CenterPoint's own NGV fleet to 85 units. CenterPoint provides guidelines to its operations personnel across its service territory that are designed to help ‘identify promising candidates for natural gas fleet conversion.’

‘Our current strategy is to proactively market natural gas as a transportation fuel in all markets, and fleet conversion emphasizes this goal,’ says Joe McGoldrick, division president of gas operations for CenterPoint.

The company notes that it will also begin supplying natural gas service to 17 new compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations located in CenterPoint service territory.
