European automaker Renault says it is using BorgWarner's variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbochargers in the new 1.6 L Energy dci 130 diesel engine, which will be rolled out in Renault's European Scenic and Grand Scenic models.

According to BorgWarner, the VTG turbocharger helps the engine achieve CO2 emissions of less than 185 grams/mile and 20% better fuel economy than its 1.9 L predecessor. The four-cylinder diesel produces 130 HP and 236 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,750 rpm.

The company adds that the engine is intended for Renault's and Nissan's European mid-range C-segment vehicles.
