Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide Inc. has developed a new compressed natural gas (CNG) tank, the 400 Series, that is built with composite materials and has a diesel-gallon equivalency of 26 gallons.
Quantum says the new product, which is ultra-lightweight and requires less structure for mounting support, is particularly suitable for refuse-truck applications.
‘President Obama has proposed a credit equivalent of 50 percent of the extra cost of purchasing a natural gas-powered truck compared with one that runs on diesel or gasoline,’ says Alan P. Niedzwiecki, president and CEO of Quantum. ‘Such incentives make conversion to inexpensive, clean-burning and U.S.-produced natural gas fuel even more attractive, due to a high return on investment and short payback.’
