Propane-Powered Ford Transit Under Development

Blossman Services Inc. (BSI) says it is working with technicians at the new Autogas Research & Development Center in North Carolina on a propane autogas vehicle conversion platform for the Ford Transit.

Transit vans and wagons, which are replacing the E-Series vehicles in the market, are equipped with Ford's 3.7-liter V6 engine. BSI is using Prins' bi-fuel VSI system as the basis of the propane vehicle conversions, coupled with 21 usable gallons of on-board propane storage.

The Transit is available in single- and dual-rear-wheel models, with three different body lengths and three roof heights. Configurations cover 8-, 10-, 12- and 15-passenger seating, providing flexible cargo volume and payload options.Â

BSI notes that it will be testing the propane system on the Ford Transit this month, and the company will submit the platform for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approval by January 2015.

BSI, a subsidiary of Blossman Gas Inc., is the managing member of Alliance AutoGas. It is the exclusive U.S. distributor of Prins autogas products.
