Detroit-based utility DTE Energy says it is planning to take delivery of 10 demonstration-fleet Ram 1500 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) pickup trucks from Chrysler Group LLC.
Chrysler developed the vehicles in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy, which is spearheading a program whereby it will deploy more than 100 EVs in various cities to test EVs' city drive cycles, charging performance, fuel economy and overall performance.Â
CenterPoint Energy's electric utility in Houston recently committed to putting five Ram PHEVs into service in its fleet, as did the New York Police Department. Cities such as San Francisco; Boston; Albany, N.Y.; and Charlotte, N.C., are also participating in the program.
