Phoenix Public Transit Fleet Getting 120 New CNG Buses

The City of Phoenix is working with New Flyer Industries Inc. to deploy 120 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses in the city's Public Transit Division. These 40-foot, low-floor units will be manufactured in St. Cloud, Minn.

‘We are proud of the opportunity to continue to build for the City of Phoenix,’ says Paul Soubry, president and CEO of New Flyer. ‘The foundation of our relationship dates as far back as the launch of our CNG system, nearly two decades ago.’

The 120 new CNG vehicles will replace natural gas buses that are already operating in Phoenix's fleet in regular service. These buses, however, run on liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Production of the buses is set to begin in the fourth quarter, and the first deliveries will follow in 2014.
