Majority of Houston Metro’s Fleet Replacement Will Be CNG

The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (Metro) – the public transportation agency that serves Houston and the surrounding area – has contracted with New Flyer Industries Inc. subsidiary NABI Bus LLC for 265 40-foot transit buses.

The agreement is a firm order for the delivery of 40 diesel buses next summer, followed by 45 diesels and 80 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses in 2015. In 2016, Metro will take delivery of only CNG-powered buses – 100 of them.

NABI's 40-LFW model, introduced in 1998, is available using either carbon steel or optional stainless steel materials. Metro is choosing the latter. These buses will be manufactured at NABI's facility in Anniston, Ala.
