The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) has extended its contract with BYD Motors Inc. to continue an electric vehicle (EV) testing program, which began last December.
According to the HACLA, the contract now runs through Dec. 31, 2012. Moreover, the agency negotiated new terms of the agreement, with BYD now supplying seven of its EVs.
The HACLA fleet incorporates BYD's F3DM (Dual Mode) sedans to conduct housing inspections. These vehicles allow users to manually switch between all-electric and plug-in-hybrid electric mode.
In the past year, the EV fleet has traveled over 37,000 miles, the HACLA says. During that time, the agency has experienced savings per-car of about 75% percent over gasoline vehicles traveling the same mileage.
