XL Hybrids Inc., a developer of hybrid-electric powertrains for commercial vans and trucks, says ship-thru partner Knapheide Manufacturing Co. has eclipsed the 100 mark in installations of XL Hybrids' XL3 powertrain on fleet vehicles.
XL Hybrids says its system is delivered by Knapheide via an OEM ship-through process, providing one-stop purchasing, upfitting, delivery and invoicing for commercial fleets. Knapheide has handled hybrid-electric retrofits on model-year 2012, 2013 and 2014 vans for XL Hybrid customers such as Coca-Cola and FedEx.
‘Installing over 100 hybrid-electric powertrain components on Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana cargo vans in our first five months of production is a great accomplishment,’ says Bo Knapheide, senior vice president of distributor and fleet operations. ‘With XL Hybrids' technology, we offer fleet customers a work-ready, fuel-efficient hybrid van that delivers a fast payback.’
XL Hybrids says its system has been shown to reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by 20% on urban and suburban routes.
