Joule Unlimited has formed a strategic partnership with automotive company Audi AG that will help Joule commercialize its Sunflow-E and Sunflow-D ‘sustainable’ transportation fuels.
Through the agreement, Audi has selected Joule as its exclusive partner for the development of biologically-derived diesel and ethanol, calling for fuel testing and validation; lifecycle analysis; and support for Joule's demonstration facility in Hobbs, N.M., which opened this month.
Joule says the fuels – which are aimed at the ethanol and diesel markets, respectively – are ‘derived directly from sunlight and waste carbon dioxide.’ The proprietary Helioculture technology converts waste and sunlight into CO2 and, ultimately, into the ‘essential chemical building blocks’ for diesel fuel, the company says.
