XL Hybrids Inc. says Johnson Controls Inc. will supply advanced lithium-ion batteries for the company's portfolio of hybrid-electric powertrains, which are aimed specifically at commercial fleet users.
The Johnson Controls battery pack offers 1.8 kWh of energy storage, a peak discharge power rating of 50 kW and a nominal voltage of 260 V. It will be developed and manufactured at the company's facility in Holland, Mich.
XL Hybrids says its products, which can reduce trucks' and vans' fuel consumption by up to 21% on urban routes, have been integrated into Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans and deployed by fleets for pilot testing. Hybrid vans featuring the Johnson Controls battery pack will go on sale in 2013.
