The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) and the Indiana Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Fund Committee have formally announced the first round of the Indiana Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Program’s grant funding, which will distribute awards ranging from $50,000 to $2 million.
The total available funding in the first round is $9.83 million. Grant money will be awarded to clean air projects that significantly reduce diesel emissions across Indiana. Examples include replacing older diesel garbage trucks with compressed natural gas vehicles or replacing older diesel school buses with newer diesel or alternative fuel buses.
The statewide program is supported with funds from Indiana’s portion of the national Volkswagen Mitigation Trust Fund. The program will post separate, additional solicitations for the Light-duty Electric Vehicle Infrastructure and Diesel Emissions Reduction Act components.
Public and private entities may submit applications, and the request for proposals deadline is June 17. The committee will select projects by August. Application information can be found here.
