Blue Bird Corp. says it will be offering a 98-gallon propane autogas fuel tank as an option on model-year 2015 buses. The company will be putting these tanks into production this fall.
The standard tank size on propane-powered Blue Bird models, including the full-size Vision, is 67 gallons. The 46% larger 98-gallon tank will offer school-district fleets substantially more autogas range between refuelings.
Blue Bird notes that the new tank is 20 times more puncture-resistant than gasoline or diesel fuel tanks, and it has been tested to over three times its working pressure. The tank is compliant with National Fire Protection Association regulations and is certified to American Society of Mechanical Engineers standards.
