Hexagon Raufoss, a subsidiary of Hexagon Composites that focuses on compressed natural gas (CNG) and hydrogen fuel-storage and related systems, says it will soon begin working with a ‘major international car manufacturer’ on the integration of Type 4 CNG tanks.
The company will start working with the as-yet-unnamed OEM on initial product development during the third quarter of 2014. The first product deliveries are expected in early 2017, and the supply partnership – estimated at up to $90 million in value – will proceed for up to seven years.
‘This nomination puts Hexagon Composites in the lead position as Type 4 CNG tank supplier to the passenger car segment and contributes to growth for the company in the following years,’ says Jorn Helge Dahl, director of market and sales at Hexagon Raufoss. ‘This further gives traction to CNG as an alternative fuel solution.’
Hexagon Raufoss' TUFFSHELL line of Type 4 CNG tanks are used in various natural gas vehicle applications, from light-duty passenger cars to heavy-duty transit buses.
