Ford Motor Co. says it is substantially increasing production of vehicles that feature the company's EcoBoost engines, offering 11 equipped models in 2012. Seven Ford vehicles were available with EcoBoost technology last year.
Ford anticipates tripling production of these vehicles this year, to more than 375,000. EcoBoost-equipped models yield up to 20% better fuel economy than conventional engines through the use of turbocharging, gasoline direct injection and other advancements, Ford says.
The 1.6 L EcoBoost engine will be available in platforms such as the Escape compact utility vehicle, Fusion sedan and hybrid-electric vehicles. The Taurus, Focus and F-150 pickup will also have EcoBoost options.
