BYD Co. Ltd. has deployed 45 of its e6 electric vehicles in the municipal taxi fleet of Bogota, Colombia, as a part of the country's BIOTAXIS Project.
‘The purpose of this pilot is to replace conventional taxis with the electric taxis and show a visible benefit to investors due to the reduced operational cost of electric vehicles,’ says Dr. Gustavo Petro Urrero, the mayor of Bogota.
The e6 is an all-electric, five-passenger crossover vehicle powered by BYD's proprietary iron-phosphate battery technology. Offering a range of approximately 185 miles, the e6 can be fully charged from a depleted battery state in about two hours.
The company notes that more than 800 of its e6 vehicles are being used as taxis worldwide today.
