Cummins Unveils ISV5.0 V8 Diesel for North American On-Highway Markets

Cummins Inc. has announced the ISV5.0, a new 5-liter V8 diesel engine designed to power pickup and delivery vehicles, other light- and medium-duty trucks, school buses and motorhomes. The company says the ISV5.0 extends its range of clean-diesel engines for North American vehicles.

According to Cummins, the ISV5.0 has been designed to fit where a comparable V8 or V10 gasoline engine was previously installed. High injection pressures from the Bosch High Pressure Common Rail fuel system and piezo fuel injectors provide control for optimized in-cylinder combustion, leading to better fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, the company adds.

Cummins says the ISV5.0 will serve customers in the U.S. and Canada and will be certified to the near-zero NOx and PM emissions levels required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. At launch, it will also meet greenhouse gas requirements through 2016 and 2015 Air Resources Board standards, including on-board diagnostics. Production of the ISV5.0 will begin in the fourth quarter of 2014.
