Cummins Inc. says it is building its new 5.0-liter V8 turbo diesel engine for Nissan's Titan pickup trucks at the Cummins facility in Columbus, Ind. Nissan has not announced a launch date for the diesel option, but prototypes are ‘undergoing extensive on-highway testing,’ the company says.
‘The innovative and lightweight design of the 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel is a perfect fit for the customer who wants V8 performance with diesel efficiency,’ says Jeff Caldwell, general manager of Cummins' pickup truck business. ‘It broadens Cummins' range of products and provides a new clean diesel option for our customers.’
Nissan says it is ‘counting on the Cummins diesel to provide light truck customers with a combination of towing capacity and fuel economy that will give the Titan a key advantage in the highly competitive U.S. pickup truck market.’
The new truck will have a torque rating greater than 500 lb.-ft. and offer more than 300 horsepower. Additional details about the vehicles will be released soon.
