GridPoint Inc. and Coulomb Technologies have unveiled what they claim is the first smart grid-enabled charging station for electric vehicles. The solution uses Coulomb's ChargePoint networked charging stations and GridPoint's charging software application.
The companies say utilities and municipalities can now access a networked infrastructure solution that adapts to grid events while providing fuel for electric vehicles. In times of peak demand or during critical grid events, utilities can utilize public charging infrastructure to manage the electricity load. Also, demand response events can be dispatched system-wide or targeted to specific locations within a distribution system.
This collaboration followed on the heels of an announcement from GridPoint that noted the availability of the company's new Smart Charging 3.0 electric vehicle management software.
