Clean Air Power, Ricardo to Design Dual-Fuel Natural Gas Platform

Ricardo PLC and Clean Air Power Ltd. have signed an agreement with an unnamed global truck manufacturer to develop a dual-fuel natural gas truck engine that will be used in Southeast Asia.

This deal is the first major contract that Clean Air Power and Ricardo have executed since announcing, in September 2013, their intention to jointly develop diesel/natural gas engine technologies for heavy-duty trucking applications.

‘It is a pleasure to be announcing a concept study so quickly after entering the cooperation agreement with Ricardo,’ says John Pettit, CEO of Clean Air Power. ‘This is a very exciting but challenging program which highlights the interest in our technology in major world markets, including Asia.’

This new development program will use Clean Air Power's proprietary Dual-Fuel combustion technology ‘to deliver an advanced dual-fuel engine that not only achieves its emissions objective but also reduces the extent of emissions after-treatment required by the base diesel engine,’ the company says.

The concept phase of the program is expected to last six months, after which time the engine will go into production.
