SCR Medical Transportation, a Chicago-based provider of paratransit services, is acquiring 11 Dodge Grand Caravan natural gas vehicles from World CNG, a company that specializes in compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle conversions.
‘Through a partnership with NatGasCar, we have been able to develop an EPA-certified CNG minivan that is a safe and affordable solution for paratransit operators,’ says Garret Alpers, president of World CNG. ‘The innovative trunk-mounted CNG tank design allows for the straightforward addition of the side-load wheelchair ramp that many ADA service providers require.’
SCR Medical Transportation will be bringing the CNG minivans – each of which feature an 11.2 GGE CNG tank and 200 miles of range – online over the next several weeks. The fleet provides paratransit services in a six-county area in northeastern Illinois.
Federal grants administered by the City of Chicago's Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection Green Taxi Program covered the incremental cost of the CNG conversions.
