Heavy-duty trucking fleet Dillon Transport says it is deploying 25 new Kenworth T800 day cabs powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). These trucks will all feature the new 11.9-liter ISX12 G natural gas engine from Cummins Westport.
The T800 tractors, which will stating rolling out this summer, will operate out of Dillon's Dallas facility and haul asphalt, sand and other raw bulk products. The trucks have twin LNG tanks (one 72-gallon and one 150-gallon tank), which yield a range of approximately 650 miles. Each truck will make two 600-mile round trips per day, and refueling will occur twice daily at the Clean Energy Fuels LNG station at Dillon's Dallas terminal.
‘With the right spec'ing choices, many operators have the potential to realize significant reductions in fuel costs and emissions, particularly if they're replacing older diesel trucks with new Kenworth trucks powered by natural gas,’ says Andy Douglas, Kenworth's national sales manager for specialty markets.
Kenworth offers the ISX12 G for the Kenworth T660, T800 short hood (116.5-inch BBC) and W900S. Also available for heavier applications is Kenworth's T800 standard hood (122.5-inch BBC) with the Westport HD 15-liter ISX G.
