The Clean Energy Vehicles for British Columbia program has been extended an additional year, through March 2014, giving B.C. consumers more time to take advantage of incentives for alt-fuel vehicles.

The provincial program, which is administered by the New Car Dealers Association of B.C., provides grants of up to $5,000 for new electric vehicles (EVs) and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles. The associated LiveSmart BC Residential Charging Point Rebate Program has also been extended for another year. It gives rebates of up to $500 for residential EV charging stations.

‘We've been working closely with auto manufacturers to attract new clean energy vehicles to our market, and with this news, we'll be able to continue along our already successful path,’ says Blair Qualey, president and CEO of the New Car Dealers Association of B.C. ‘The feedback from customers who've taken advantage of the financial incentive has been very positive, and we're looking forward to seeing more CEV options on our roads.’

In the last year and a half, the program has supported more than 400 alt-fuel vehicle purchases and the installation of more than 100 residential EV chargers.
