Honda says its 2014 Accord plug-in hybrid electric vehicle – a mid-size sedan with an EPA fuel-economy rating of 115 MPGe – is now on sale in select California and New York markets.
The vehicle's MSRP is $39,780, and a monthly lease program sets the price at $429/mo. for 36 months, with $2,499 due at signing. The Accord's all-electric range is 13 miles, and the gasoline-only fuel-economy rating is 46 MPG combined. Additionally, the vehicle is the first production car in the U.S. to meet the new LEV3/SULEV20 emissions standard, the company says.
The plug-in hybrid is powered by Honda's new Earth Dreams two-motor hybrid system, which uses a 124 kW electric motor paired with a 2.0-liter i-VTEC, Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine. The vehicle can be fully charged from a low-charge state in less than three hours using a 120 V charger, and in less than one hour using a 240 V Level-2 charger.
