XL Hybrids Inc. says it is now offering its XL3 hybrid-electric powertrain on cutaway vehicles up to 14,500 lbs. GVW, and system integrations for strip chassis vehicles will be available in the coming weeks.
The system is available now for the Ford E-350 and E-450 cutaway, and the E-350 and E-450 stripped chassis and GMC 3500/4500 cutaway chassis are next in line. The expansion will allow the XL3 to be integrated into numerous applications, including refrigerated vehicles, walk-in vans, shuttle buses and utility trucks.
‘This opens up opportunities for fleets operating cutaway and strip chassis vans to get a 25 percent increase in miles driven per gallon,’ says Tod Hynes, president and founder of XL Hybrids.
To date, XL Hybrids' systems have been available for certain Class 1 and 2 vehicles, and the company's noteworthy fleet customers include FedEx and Coca-Cola.
