Westport Innovations Inc. says a new bi-fuel Ford F-250 Super Duty truck that uses the Westport WiNG system is making a road trip from the Midwest to New York City this week, running exclusively on compressed natural gas (CNG).
The 700-mile trek, which the company has dubbed the ‘Where in the World is Westport WiNG?’ tour, is the public's first opportunity to see the new technology. The Westport WiNG system – which is available in the F-250 and F-350 – is designed to run 300 miles on CNG alone, and it offers a 650-mile range on CNG and gasoline.
The truck is stopping at Valley Ford Truck Sales and at the Stark Area Regional Transit Authority's Clean Energy Fuels CNG refueling station in Ohio today. Tomorrow, the vehicle will be at Allegheny Ford Truck Sales in Pittsburgh, followed by a stop on Wednesday at John Kennedy Ford in Pottstown. Pa. On Thursday, the truck will be parked in Times Square in Manhattan.
The system is available through Westport LD-authorized Ford dealers and distributors, the company says. Deliveries to fleet operators are expected to begin during this quarter.
