Wednesday marks the official opening of Westport Innovations Inc.'s Windsor Integration Centre in Windsor, Ontario, where the company will focus on integrating its WiNG Power System into Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks.
Westport originally announced the establishment of the Windsor site back in March.
Developed mainly to serve fleet customers in the Canadian market on a ship-through basis, the new 20,000-square-foot facility will perform natural gas vehicle conversions on Ford trucks that are built at the OEM's assembly plant in Oakville, Ontario, according to coverage from the Windsor Star. Once the trucks receive the WiNG Power System, they re-enter Ford's pipeline to be routed to dealerships.
Westport's NGV conversions are available on Ford F-250 through F-550 Super Duty trucks that use either the 6.2-liter V8 or 6.8-liter V10 engine. Because Westport is a Ford Motor Co. Qualified Vehicle Modifier (QVM), the trucks maintain Ford's full warranty.
