Westport Innovations Inc., a Vancouver, B.C.-based manufacturer of natural-gas engines, is establishing a design and development center in Detroit as a part of a $50 million investment.
An article in the Detroit Free Press explains that the company is currently focusing on fleet markets, but it plans on launching light-duty personal vehicles that run on compressed natural gas (CNG). Westport's decision to site the new office in Detroit reflects the area's potential for yielding high-level talent in auto design, the report says.
