Wilmington, N.C.-based Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority, operating as Wave Transit, has added two compressed natural gas (CNG) buses to its fleet and has plans for four more CNG units by year's end.
According to a Port City Daily report, Wave Transit recently completed its new Castle Hayne operations center, which also has an on-site CNG fueling station. The authority's director said Wave Transit chose a switch to natural gas due to the fuel's cost efficiency, and he expects the authority to recoup the expenses for its $1 million CNG station in less than three years.
All told, the director said Wave plans to keep adding CNG buses over the next four years and operate a total of 18 of the natural gas vehicles in its fleet.
