ATUQ, the organization that comprises Quebec's nine public transit authorities, has ordered 475 hybrid city buses from Nova Bus, the North American subsidiary of Volvo Buses.
Nova Bus says the agreement, which is the largest single order for its hybrid LFS model, includes an option to extend the supply by an additional 1,200 vehicles. The first buses in this order are scheduled for delivery at the beginning of 2014.
The hybrid LFS will utilize the 6.7-liter Cummins ISB paired to the HDS 200 HybriDrive platform from BAE Systems. Compared with conventional diesel-powered buses, the Nova LFS HEV offers approximately 30% lower fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, the company says.
