Utility Making Electric Vehicles a Yearly Commitment

Iberdrola USA, a utility that provides electricity and natural gas services in 24 states, says it will be investing at least 5% of its annual fleet acquisition budget on plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) and equipment.

The utility is working on the initiative with the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), which represents all U.S. investor-owned electric utilities.

‘Iberdrola USA has spent more than $4 million on fleet electrification during the last six years,’ says Kevin Walker, chief operating officer of Iberdrola USA Networks. ‘We've discovered the many benefits of alternate-fuel transportation, and we're not going to stop.’

Iberdrola USA currently maintains a fleet of 84 passenger PEVs/hybrids and 13 hybrid bucket trucks in its three utility operating companies in Maine and New York.
