MMC Materials Inc., a provider of ready-mix concrete and other products for the construction industry in the southeastern U.S., has deployed 12 new heavy-duty concrete mixers that run on compressed natural gas (CNG).
These Kenworth trucks feature the new 11.9-liter ISX12 G natural gas engine from Cummins Westport Inc., and the company refuels the vehicles via a Portable Fueling System (PFS) unit from TruStar Energy LLC.
‘We knew we could use CNG that's made right here at home, and given the price difference between natural gas and diesel, it adds up quickly,’ says Stanley Mangum, MMC's central region vice president.
The dozen new CNG-powered mixers represent the entirety of MMC's Jackson, Miss.-based fleet. These trucks will use the TruStar Energy PFS, which is located at the Jackson site, to refuel overnight.
Overall, MMC operates 320 trucks in its fleet.
