Transit Fleet to Roll Out Volvo Hybrid-Electric Buses

Hamburger Hochbahn AG, a public transit agency serving Hamburg, Germany, will be deploying three hybrid-electric buses from Volvo Bus Corp. in regular service by the end of this year.

The new vehicles are diesel-electric hybrid buses that reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide by up to 75%, compared with current diesel buses. Siemens will be developing the necessary recharging infrastructure for Hamburger Hochbahn's new EVs.

‘In entering into this development partnership, we will now move from being an observer to being the driving force in the field of battery bus technology,’ says Gunter Elste, Hochbahn's chairman.

Volvo Buses has previously signed agreements for the implementation of hybrid buses or full electric buses in Gothenburg, Luxembourg, Montreal and Stockholm.
