Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (MMC) says it is negotiating a potential partnership with Suzuki Motor Corp., whereby MMC will supply light-commercial electric vehicles (EVs) on an original equipment manufacturer basis.
MMC says it plans to begin supplying Suzuki with EVs in February 2012, and the agreement will call for manufacturing at scale later in the year. MMC will manufacture a minicar-class EV that is based on its MINICAB-MiEV platform.
‘The talks toward an agreement are intended to increase economies of scale for MMC, which will, in turn, contribute to lower production costs and increased productivity,’ the company said in a statement.
