As a part of its fleet replacement program, Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) says it intends to bring ‘about 1,000’ new natural gas-powered trucks into service over the next five years.

To meet the goal, the utility will purchase new trucks from original equipment manufacturers, as well as buy custom-built natural gas vehicles (NGV) through various companies in Southern California. Concurrently, SoCalGas is expanding its 13 company-owned public-access compressed natural gas stations to accommodate the larger NGV fleet.

The utility, which already has approximately 1,000 NGVs in service, notes that is will work with firms such as Landi Renzo USA, Royal Truck Bodies and Wondries Fleet Group to secure the custom-built CNG vehicles.
