Solazyme, Dynamic Fuels Awarded Major Government Biofuel Contract

Dynamic Fuels LLC is supplying the U.S. Navy with 425,000 gallons of biofuel – 100,000 gallons of jet fuel and 350,000 gallons of marine distillate fuel – to support the Navy's ‘Green Strike Group,’ which consists of vessels and ships powered by biofuels.

The company, a joint venture between Tyson Foods Inc. and Syntroleum Corp., is working with renewable oil and bioproducts company Solazyme Inc. to fulfill the order. Dynamic Fuels recently tested renewable jet fuel with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Finnair, Thomson Airways and Alaska Airlines, and Solazyme has partnered with United Airlines to provide 20 million gallons of biofuel a year starting in 2014.

The fuel will be manufactured at Dynamic Fuel's Geismar, La., facility, employing used cooking oil and Solazyme's algal oil as feedstocks. The fuel will be delivered to the Navy in May 2012.
