Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) is leading some public outreach efforts in its region for a group of prototype natural gas vehicles (NGVs) that debuted in June.

The Add Natural Gas (+NG) campaign – a collaboration between America's Natural Gas Alliance (ANGA) and the American Gas Association (AGA) – rolled out bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) versions of six popular vehicles during the ACT Expo early this summer: a BMW X3 xDrive 28i, Chrysler 300C AWD, Honda CR-V EX 2WD Hyundai Sonata Limited, GMC Acadia Denali, Honda CR-V EX 2WD and Ford Mustang GT. SoCalGas unveiled the BMW, Chrysler, Honda and Hyundai this week at the Santa Monica AltCar Expo.

‘SoCalGas is excited to unveil these vehicles to Southern California consumers,’ says Dennis Arriola, president and chief operating officer for SoCalGas. ‘Together with our national partners, we want people to think about a future where not only buses, refuse haulers and trucks are fueled by natural gas, but where individuals can also own a personal NGV that's good for the environment and for their wallet.’

Following their presentation at the AltCar Expo, the vehicles will be on display at the Kern County Fair in California on Sept. 22-23, and thereafter shown at various events around the country to raise awareness about NGVs.

SoCalGas provides natural gas distribution service to nearly 21 million customers.
