Sheriff’s Fleet Integrates Auxiliary Power Idle Reduction Systems

The sheriff's office in Alameda County, Calif., has equipped eight of its public safety vehicles with Energy Xtreme's Independence Package – a mobile auxiliary electric power idle reduction system.

The system is designed to allow the vehicle's full electrical system to operate without having to idle the engine. In turn, the Independence Package saves fuel, cuts emissions and reduces air pollution, extending the life of the vehicle by mitigating engine wear and tear.

‘A fantastic job was done working around the configurations of four different types of vehicles and getting our deputies' vehicles out the door as fast as possible,’ says Phillip Kobernick, a sustainability specialist for the county's General Services Agency.
