Ryder System Inc.'s fleet of 320 natural gas vehicles – 36 liquefied natural gas (LNG) and 284 compressed natural gas (CNG) tractors – recently crossed 15 million miles of total operation, the company says.

Ryder's first natural gas vehicles were launched in 2011. Today, these LNG and CNG trucks are running in 37 customer operations in California, New York, Arizona, Michigan and Louisiana. All told, the NGVs have replaced approximately 2.3 million gallons of diesel fuel with natural gas.

‘Our leasing and rental offerings make Ryder uniquely positioned to help businesses take advantage of these new technologies,’ says Ryder Chairman and CEO Robert Sanchez. ‘We believe natural gas is the most viable alternative fuel solution for commercial trucking because it is clean, efficient, cheap and abundant.’

In addition to making NGVs available for rent or lease, Ryder's Flex-to-Green Lease solution is designed to ease fleets' transitions to NGVs. Businesses that opt for a Flex-to-Green Lease start out with a diesel-powered vehicle and then have the option to convert to an NGV at any time following the first full year of the lease.
