Protean Electric has released its Protean Drive system – an in-wheel electric-drive solution that offers fleet managers an option to improve their light-duty vehicles' fuel economy and emissions performance.
The company says its product is ‘the closest thing to a 'bolt-on' hybrid system,’ whereby Protean Drive can be integrated as an after-market application. The in-wheel motor delivers up to 81 kW (110 hp) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, and weighs just under 70 pounds. The system also offers regenerative-braking technology that allows up to 85% of available kinetic energy to be recovered during braking.
