The Port of Seattle has awarded a contract to AeroVironment Inc. for the supply of the company's PosiCharge electric ground-support equipment (eGSE) fast-charge systems at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The contact, which is potentially worth $8.8 million through 2014, will make it possible to charge any airport electric vehicle with any PosiCharge system.

‘The Port of Seattle's management has made an important commitment to the environment and to the productivity of airlines operating at Seattle-Tacoma International by investing in common-use fast-charge infrastructure,’ says Wahid Nawabi, senior vice president at AeroVironment and general manager of the company's Efficient Energy Systems business segment.

AeroVironment notes that its PosiCharge system is already in use at several major international airports, such as those in Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, New York, Los Angeles and Miami. PosiCharge systems are also deployed at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, Calif., which is the first airport ground fleet to fully convert to EVs.
