New York State's Bloomfield Central School District is adding two Blue Bird propane autogas buses to its fleet of school buses.
According to the Brighton-Pittsford Post, each bus will cost around $7,500 more than a $105,000 diesel bus, but the district expects to save $30,000 in fuel costs per year.
The new buses will be funded under a grant from the district, as applied for by the district's head bus driver, who expects to get 5,000 miles per oil change, as opposed to 3,000 miles for a diesel bus.
The grant is part of the Bloomfield Central School District's initiative to switch to renewable energy.
