New Flyer Industries Inc. has announced that its battery-electric Xcelsior XE35 and XE40 model buses are eligible for the New York Truck – Voucher Incentive Program.
The program is a partnership between NYSERDA and clean-transportation organization CALSTART. It is intended to reduce the incremental costs of purchasing alternative fuel vehicles and help accelerate the adoption of such vehicles in the state. According to the program’s website, the all-electric Xcelsior models are eligible for vouchers of up to $60,000.
Paul Smith, executive vice president of sales and marketing with New Flyer, says the state’s incentive program is significant.
“We’re excited about our ability to offer New York State public transportation professionals another option in their clean-air initiatives,” he comments. “New Flyer has a strong customer base in New York State, with over 1,500 buses operating in-service with clean-diesel, diesel-electric hybrids, and compressed natural gas propulsion systems.”
