Mecklenburg County Air Quality in North Carolina is now offering the latest round of its “grants to replace aging diesel engines” (GRADE) program.

The goal of GRADE is to reduce nitrogen oxide from diesel vehicles operating within the Charlotte region by replacing or repowering non-road equipment and heavy-duty, on-road vehicles with “newer, cleaner, less-polluting engines.” Recipients of the funding will be reimbursed for approved expenses after a project has been completed.

There is currently $500,000 available with rebates of up to 25% of the cost of new vehicles or equipment. Applications are being accepted until Aug. 31.

Since its inception in 2007, GRADE has funded over 300 projects and awarded $6.6 million, according to Mecklenburg County Air Quality.
